Counselling

Counselling is a therapeutic collaboration between a qualified counsellor and client. The aim is to support you in developing a better self-understanding and finding a resolution to your identified concerns. Counsellors engage in empathy and deep listening skills to establish a positive working relationship and safe space for clients. Therapy involves formulating a strengths-based treatment plan to assist the client to achieve their goals and objectives in therapy. Within this context, clients may develop effective ways of dealing with mental health issues or negative life patterns, while feeling respected and accepted without judgment.

Emotional Intelligence

Acknowledging, observing and letting go.

The more an individual learns to master their feelings and emotions, the more freedom they have to expand their outlook and discover new solutions. In turn, this facilitates the development of resilience and the growth of new strengths and abilities, leading to more options and a sense of self-mastery and empowerment.

A holistic approach is central to the counselling treatment plan. Putting the pace and direction of therapy in the control of the client. Time Line Therapy

Time Line Therapy™

Time Line Therapy® techniques are a unique and unmatched method for creating powerful change in therapy, business, and education. Time Line Therapy® utilizes a person’s own internal “Time Line” to work with their unconscious minds in a variety of ways; including, healing emotional traumas and eradicating unwanted thoughts, emotions and behaviours.

Time Line Therapy® has been so successful in its results that it has been utilized since 1986 by thousands of people including psychiatrists, psychologists, marriage and family counsellors, social workers, life and business coaches, and even athletic coaches. Your “Time Line” is how you unconsciously store your memories or how you unconsciously know the difference between a memory from the past and a projection of the future.

Behavioural change in an individual takes place at an unconscious level. People don’t change consciously. The Time Line Therapy® techniques allow you to work at the unconscious level and release the effects of past negative experiences and change “inappropriate” programming in minutes rather than days, months or years.

Hypnotherapy - PsycFlex Counselling

Hypnotherapy

Hypnosis describes the process of guiding someone into a trance — a deep state of relaxation where the client is disburdened of the conscious mind’s control and therefore the subconscious mind (including memories, beliefs, coping strategies and desires) can be revealed and/or witnessed without judgement. Hypnotherapy is the application of hypnosis to support the overcoming of mental and physical conditions and blockages, through releasing or transforming aspects of the unconscious apparatus which no longer serve the client.

Art Therapy

Art Therapy

Art therapy has been shown to support a mindful awareness of emotions by fostering understanding through observation and expression. Psychotherapy Adelaide

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is a process of engagement between therapist and clients for the purpose of healing and/or transformation. Clients’ suffering is addressed through the co-created therapeutic relationship and explored through any of emotional, physical, relational, existential, spiritual and/or behavioural terrains. Through deep listening and empathic, holistic exploration, psychotherapists support clients in working through conscious and unconscious factors that are affecting clients’ lives and wellbeing.

A key element of psychotherapy is the relationship between the psychotherapist and the client. This provides a safe container for the client to experience their feelings, as well as functioning as a relational encounter which supports clients’ growing awareness’s of patterns playing out in their lives.

Through the psychotherapeutic relationship, clients may also access important insights and new ways of being in the world which flow from the newfound awareness, and sense of freedom around feelings previously too difficult to be with.

About Kylie Jane Playford

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

Acceptance and commitment therapy is a form of psychotherapy. It is an empirically based psychological intervention that uses acceptance and mindfulness strategies along with commitment and behaviour-change strategies to increase psychological flexibility. It is a mindfulness- based approach that emphasises acceptance to deal with negative thoughts, feelings, symptoms, or circumstances. It also encourages increased commitment to healthy, constructive activities that uphold your values or goals.

Somatic Therapy

Somatic approaches are used to engage the relationship between mind and body. Soma is the Greek word meaning “the living body”, understanding the physiological symptoms of trauma experienced within the body. Treatment is a body-orientation approach combining psychotherapy with physical functioning, guided by the principles of Polyvagal theory to release emotional pain, enhance self-awareness, and improve emotional regulation.

Relationship Counselling

Relationship Counselling

Relationship or couples counselling helps partners improve their relationship and create a heightened sense of understanding and unity. Therapy includes conflict resolution, strengthening healthy communication, and increasing intimacy, and affection. Identifying and removing barriers that create a feeling of mistrust, resentment and stagnancy. Facing difficult situations together to rebuild the bonds of trust, respect and love.

Art Therapy

Children and Adolescence

Specialised, age-specific therapies for children and teenagers. Helping to encourage self-mastery, through learning skills to balance emotional issues, understand helpful thinking strategies and manage behavioural issues. Addressing issues including fears, anxiety, phobia, bullying, depression, low self-esteem and self-harm. Empowering neurological diversity by building social skills and mastering social and emotional wellbeing.

Equine Assisted Psychotherapy

Equine Assisted Psychotherapy

Equine assisted psychotherapy incorporates horses into the therapeutic process. Horses can be used in counselling with individuals of all ages, including with families and in a group setting. As clients learn to interact with the horse and try new things, they are being asked to step out of their comfort zone with the help and support of the therapist and the horse. Clients can then process their experience, learning to manage their fears and challenges, as well as learning skills in self-reflection, emotional regulation, empathy and attuning to self and the horse during therapy. The focus is on presence, attention, mindfulness, boundaries, social cues, and somatic experiences aimed at building a greater understanding of oneself through their relationship to the horse.

Neuro-Linguistic Programming

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) deals with neurology, language and habituated embodied patterns and how they interact with one another, with particular attention to the relationships between successful behaviour patterns and the thoughts that underlay them. Engaging various tools and techniques, the practitioner supports the client in re-programming their neurology, language and actions in order to be more empowered and effective in the world.
